Then, the Old Man and the Old Woman came back from the town with a hired palanquin.
そこへ爺と婆とは駕籠を買うて、町から帰って来ました．

They said "Well, now! Princess Melon! Please get on this palanquin!"
さあさあ、瓜子姫、おカゴを召せと言って・・・

They had the Goblin riding on the palanquin and started for the shrine.
And then, the true Princess Melon shouted behind the persimmon tree of the backyard.
"Why don't you take me? Oh, oh! The Goblin is riding on the palanquin. Oh, oh!"
・・・天邪鬼を駕籠に乗せて鎮守様へ参ろうとしていると、裏の柿の木の陰から本当の瓜子姫が、瓜子を乗せないでようよう、アマノジャクばかりカゴに乗せてようようと、大きな声で泣きました．

The Old Man and the Old Woman were surprised at the voice and returned back.
And, the Old Man swung a scythe up.
爺と婆とはその声を聞いて、ビックリして引き返して来て、それから爺は鎌を振り上げて・・・

He cut the Goblin's head off.
・・・天邪鬼の首を切って・・・

And, he discarded it into a millet field.
People say that the stems of millets turn red at autumn because they were stained with the blood of the Goblin.

・・・黍の畑に捨ててしまいました．
キビの茎が秋赤くなるのは、その天邪鬼の血が染まったからだそうです．
