ＷＥＢ絵本『山父のさとり』

Long long ago, a Cooper lived in a place.
In a snowy morning, the Cooper was working outside.

昔ある所に一人の桶屋がありました．

雪の降った朝、外に出て仕事をしておりますと・・・

A fearful monster with a single eye and a single leg came from a mountain.
And it stopped in front of the Cooper at work.
・・・山の方から一つ目、一本足の恐ろしい怪物がやって来て、働いている桶屋の前に来て立ちました．

The Cooper looked and trembled at the monster.
And he thought "This monster must be the Mountain Papa. I have often heard its rumors."
Then, the monster said "Hey, Cooper! You thought 'This monster must be the Mountain Papa.' , didn't you?"
The Cooper thought "Ah, I'm in trouble! This monster immediately reads my thoughts."
Then, the monster said "Hey, Cooper! You thought 'Ah, I'm in trouble! This monster immediately reads my thoughts.' , didn't you?"
After that, the monster also immediately guessed everthing that the Cooper thought. So, the Cooper was puzzled.
He had no choice but to work tremblingly.

桶屋はそれを見て震えながら、これが昔から話に聞いている山父というものだなと思いました．

そうすると、その怪物は、おい桶屋、お前はこれが山父というものだろうと思っているなと言いました．

これは大変だ、こっちの思っていることを、すぐに、ああして言い当てると思いますと、

おい桶屋、おまえは今思っている事をすぐに悟るから大変だと思ったなと又言いました．

それから後も、なんでもかんでも思うと、じきに悟られるので桶屋は困ってしまいました．

そうして仕方なしにブルブル震えながら仕事をしていますと・・・

Unintentionarily the Cooper fumbled with his numb hand.
And an end of the hoop of bamboo rushed forward.
Then it hit the face of the Mauntain Papa.

・・・思わず知らず、かじかんだ手が滑って、タガの竹の端が前へ走り、ヤマチチの顔をパチンと打ちました．

The Mountain Papa was surprised at this.
And it said "Men are fearful because they sometimes do what they don't think. I don't know what will happen to me if I stay here."
It ran away toward the mountain rapidly.

山父は、これにはビックリ仰天して、人間というやつは時々思っていない事をするから怖い．

ここにいると、どんな目に遭うか知れないと言って、どんどん又山の方へ、逃げて行ってしまったそうであります．
