"Hey, marvelous!" I said.
「どうだ．すばらしいだろう！」と私が言った．

"Dear, beautiful!" exclaimed the young woman, who was gazing at that.
"This is a true art! Dear, beautiful! May I ask your name?"
And, she stared at my face and blinked with her long eyelashes respectfully and lovingly.
She requested me to visit again.
Also, she said that she wanted to see me frequently and to chat about various things.

「まあ．素敵ね！」と、じっと見て居たその少女が、感嘆おく能わざる調子で言った．

「これ、本当の芸術だわ．まあ素敵ね．貴方．何て名前の方なの？」

そして私の顔を見詰め、絶対無上の尊敬と愛慕をこめて、その長い睫毛をしばだたいた．

是非また来てくれと懇望した．

私にしばしば逢って、いろいろ話が聞きたいからとも言った．

I was filled with a great feeling of joy.
And I admired myself for my idea.
I wondered why I hadn't thought out this nice thing earlier.
If I do only this thing for any woman, I will be able to win her heart easily.
Nothing was prouder than what I originally thought out such a great invention which nobody had known previously.

私はすっかり得意になった．

そして我ながら自分の思い付に感心した．

こんなすばらしいことを、何故もっと早く考えつかなかったろうと不思議に思った．

これさえやれば、どんな女でも造作なく、自分の自由に手なづけることができるのである．

かつて何人も知らなかった、これ程の大発明を、自分が独創で考えたということほど、得意を感じさせることはなかった．

And I looked back to my stupefied friends and said proudly in ecstasy.
"If you want to win a girl's heart, there is nothing like this way. LIKE THIS WAY."

そこで私は、茫然としている友人等の方をふり返って、さも誇らしく、大得意になって言った．

「女の子を手なづけるにはね、君．この手に限るんだよ．この手にね．」

Then, I woke out of sleep.
そこで夢から醒めた．

And I burst out laughing at my foolishness because it was too funny.
However, my phrase "There is nothing like this way" has remained in my ears.
And I have never forgotten it.

そして自分のやったことの馬鹿馬鹿しさを、あまりの可笑しさに吹き出してしまった．

だが「この手に限るよ．」と言った自分の言葉が、いつ迄も耳に残って忘られなかった．

"There is nothing like this way."
Sometimes, I hear this phrase of the dream.
Such a time, I laugh my head off.
And, I think about the true character of a "fool" who lives somewhere inside of myself.

「この手に限るよ．」

その夢の中の私の言葉が、今でも時時聞こえる時、私は可笑しさに転がりながら、自分の中の何所に住んでる、或る「馬鹿者」の正体を考えるのである．
